IM -- an Dupont offspring?

At http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/ImageMagick the authors claim ImageMagick to be an offspring of a Dupont project, i.e. originally being property of the société du Pont de Nemours et compagnie. Is that true? I've never read about that anwhere else.

BTW: The Wikipedia articles are all very short and rather deviant from each other (I read English, German, French, Italian and Spanish). I think it would help if at least the English version would give some more information about the project.
